Book a Home Visit
What to Expect from a Visit
Intake forms- I know I KNOW nobody likes to fill out forms. Having a understanding of you ( and baby’s) medical history and details of the birth will help me come up with the best care plan for you and your baby! Expect these to come in an email when you schedule the appointment. Please try to fill them out and send them back so I can review them before our appointment.
Don't worry- I will go over things with you in person too!
When I arrive- If you have a partner or helper in the home to meet me at the door, great! Please don’t jump up and rush. If this is our first time meeting, I will ask to confirm your name/ identity before coming in.
I am happy to remove my outdoor shoes if requested, but will likely change into house shoes, Mr Fred Rodgers- style.
If baby is ready to eat right away, we will get a pre-feeding weight. All infant weights will be done with baby in a clean, dry diaper only. I do need a solid, flat surface about 24 x 18 inches to set up the scale. A sturdy coffee table or even a solid floor (not carpet) will work.
If baby allows, we will spend a few minutes meeting each other and reviewing things before we get started with feeding.
During a feeding, I will observe and offer feedback. I typically follow an hands-off approach, but will absolutely provide hands on support if requested. Sometimes a helping hand is just what is needed.
We will use this time to discuss any other issues or concerns, go over tips and tricks and work together to find solutions.
A post-feed weight will help us look at how much milk the baby transferred.
After everyone is fed and settled, and we have a good plan and all questions have been answered, I will pack up my things and head out! We will make a plan for any follow up visits before I go, and I will always leave you with instructions on how to reach out.
Pumping- for those who are exclusively pumping, or needing only help with pumping, we do not need to obtain a pre and post feeding weight.
Please have your pump and all parts ready to go. If you need a flange fitting, I will bring my flanges to try.
